During WW11 the Harper Hill site also housed the Mines Ordnance Company, which tested explosives that were used in the mining industry. This then became the national Health and Safety Laboratory. The HSL now tests all types of incidents/accidents in how best to prevent similar ones in the future. Pictured here is part of a London Tube carriage undergoing testing. This test was used to simulate the attack by terrorists on the London Tube. Commonly known as the ‘7/7 Bombings’.
